Employed or self-employed?
As a colon therapist you can be either employed or self-employed.
Colon therapists can be employed by spas, retreats, beauty salons and complementary medical centres.
As a self-employed colon therapist, you can offer your cervices to a spa, retreat, gym, a hairdressers' salon, a complementary medical centre, a beauty salon or run your own practice specialising in colon hydrotherapy.
ADVANTAGES OF EMPLOYMENT
- You do not need to invest into set-up costs;
- Your income is guaranteed;
- You work as part of a team;
- Your employer may pay for your colon therapy training;
- You do not bear marketing, advertising, rental and other expenses.
On the downside, your earning potential and your control over your work-life balance are quite limited. Often you feel that the financial reward does not truly reflect your contribution to the bottom line of the business.
ADVANTAGES OF SELF-EMPLOYMENT
- You exercise full control over your business;
- You can offer your services to a wider range of businesses;
- You have more flexibility in combining your business with your other commitments;
- There is a direct link between the quality of your work and the financial reward that you get.
On the downside, your risks are much higher, especially when you start your business. You also need to do all business paperwork. Four out of five businesses fail within the first five years.
Historically, the majority of colon therapists have been self-employed. However in the last three years we have trained therapists employed by five spas and, detoxification centres salons: one in Malta, one in Iran and three in the UK. Aqua-Clinic colleges are asked more and more often by progressive employers to provide training on location and help with equipment installation and marketing.
